Team Philosophy

Chaparral High School Volleyball
Team Philosophy
2008 Season
chsvb.blogspot.com

Chaparral coaches love volleyball. It is their goal to provide each player the opportunity to become a complete volleyball player and to help you and your teammates become the best team you can be.

Our Philosophy is:

THE TEAM COMES FIRST

As a Chaparral volleyball player, you agree that it is important to be committed to the team. Attendance is mandatory for all events. Chaparral volleyball players attend every practice, fundraiser, and games for all levels. All successes are shared, as well as setbacks and all decisions are made by coaches for the benefit of the team.

ATHLETES LEARN SKILLS FOR SUCCESS

Coaches will select a specific strategy for the benefit of the entire team, even if it may not seem to benefit a particular individual. You must be willing to make changes according to your coaches’ suggestions. Coaches will critique players to produce a higher level of performance.

OUR TEAM WORKS HARD FOR SUCCESS

Everyone wants to win, but few make the sacrifices to do it. No one will give you anything in life, you must earn it. You cannot cut corners. As a Chaparral player, you have high expectations for yourself and your team.

Remember that your coaches want you to know that almost every obstacle can be overcome with hard work. Commitment, responsibility, and perseverance will be rewarded.

OUR TEAM HAS BALANCE

Chaparral volleyball players are encouraged to be successful on and off the court. Coaches expect players to work for high grades to become an academic athlete. Players should strive for a GPA over a 3.0, not the minimum 2.0. Grade checks will be required every Friday for all volleyball players.

PLAYING TIME IS EARNED IN PRACTICE

As a Chaparral volleyball player, you maintain the same focus and enthusiasm whether you are between the lines or on the bench. You accept that playing time is decided by the coach for the good of the team and that playing time is earned in practice. Every player on Chaparral’s bench is focused on the game at every moment, and is ready to come in at any opportunity.

OUR TEAM HAS FUN

Volleyball is one of the most fun sports. We hope that you love this sport as much as the coaches do!

CHS Code of Conduct

Chaparral High School Volleyball
Player/Parent Code of Conduct
2008 Season

This form must be completed before participation on a Chaparral High School volleyball team.

Goals:
We understand Chaparral High School Volleyball’s philosophy regarding player development at practices and playing time at games.

Attendance:
Volleyball is a TEAM sport which requires you to be at every practice and game. CHS volleyball staff understands that there are unforeseeable events or unplanned appointments. Notification of your missed practice/game is MANDATORY. We agree to give notification to the coach if a practice/game must be missed.

***Mandatory attendance for all levels at the Freshman Tournament, Saturday, October 4, 2008.
***Mandatory attendance for all levels on match days. Varsity, JV and Freshman teams must attend each other’s matches. No exceptions.

Grades:
Chaparral students cannot participate in a sport unless they maintain a GPA of a 2.0 or higher. CHS volleyball expects their athletes to have higher expectations and strive to be an academic athlete. Grade reports will be collected every Friday. Unsatisfactory grade reports will be communicated to the parents.

Communication:
We have an open door policy to meet with parents about their child. All meetings include parent(s), player, and coach(s). We do hope that if you have any concerns that you approach the coaching staff first before addressing the Athletic Director or administrators.

Drugs/Alcohol:
Consumption of alcohol or drugs will result in immediate dismissal from the team and report to administration for further disciplinary action.
